Colts among nfl's best ever?
A friend of mine recently accused the Colts of being one of the best teams in the nfl's history. I disagreed with him naming a few teams i thought would have their way with the Colts. What do you guys think? One of the best ever?

I really don't know because I wasn't around to see the old Bears team's and Viking's teams and what not. But from what I have seen I would have to say yes they are one of the best.

Re: Colts among nfl's best ever?
My vote is no. They are a solid team, but I guess I'm just looking at there schedule and I'm not that impressed - not to call them one of the greatest teams ever. They just haven't played many teams with winning records.
Bengals 10-3
Jags 9-4
Pats 8-5
Steelers 8-5
-------------------
Rams 5-8
Ravens 4-9
Titans 4-9
Browns 4-9
49ers 2-11
Texans 1-12
I know, I know... that's what great teams are supposed to do (win the games that they are supposed to win!)

Re: Colts among nfl's best ever?
If they go undefeated, yes.
If not, they will be one of the best teams ever along with the '98 Vikings to name one.
You also have to look at the Bears (got they were good) and the 49ers who also went 15-1. They have a leg up on us because the were able to finish it wih a SB win.

if the colts go 16-0, they are the best. if they go 15-1 and win superbowl they would almost be the best.
We're bringing purple back.

Re: Colts among nfl's best ever?
So far, that's the way it's shaping up. If they win the Super Bowl that case certainly could be made. If they do that and happen to finish undefeated it might be safe to say that the '05 Colts were the best ever. That could still hold true though if they won the big game and happened to lose one game during the regular season if going unbeaten was all that significant to them.

Re: Colts among nfl's best ever?
Ok... You guy's have me 2nd guessing myself here. I've spend the last 45min looking at the records of some of the other "greatest teams."
You're probably right on this one. I guess I just have a hard time giving such lofty titles to a modern day team or trying to compare them with the "great teams" from when I was growing up. Things alway seem better/faster/stronger the further back you remember them from.
Maybe after a couple of years I'll be ok with it!

Re: Colts among nfl's best ever?
In my opinion I think they have to win the bowl before getting recognition as a great team. If they win all 16 and lose in the SB, it means nothing. For right now i think they play second fiddle to teams like the 85 Bears 72 Dolphins and 03/04 Pats (20+ wins straight.... wow)

Re: Colts among nfl's best ever?
If they win the SUPERBOWL, maybe.
If they run the table and win the SUPERBOWL, sure.
But until they get through the playoffs, no.-- Sarcasm always turned on --

They need to go undefeated and win the SB.
