    Coaching in NFL vs College

I've always wondered why an NFL coach would want to coach college football? Weis could have had any job he wanted in the NFL but chose to go back to college.

How much do college coaches get paid? Surely not as much as an NFL coach???

Why? Job security is a lot better. Weiss can be the head coach of ND forever. Look at Paterno and Bowden.

A lot of the big school coaches make more than NFL coaches. Whats the average length of an NFL coaches stint with a team? Like 3 years.

Plus, they do not have to put up with pushy owners, ego inflated ahletes who can hold out for millions of dollars.

And, college coaches are like mentors and father figures to these kids. Some like it.

If I had a choice, I would take college.

Have you seen Weis's contract? He is raking it in!

Weis's problem was IMAGE...NFL owners don't want their coaches to be sloppy looking like Weis is...their loss IMHO...the guy has what it takes to make it in the NFL...but he is set for life if he chooses to stay...look at Pete Carroll...he could stay at USC for life and never win another championship, just as long as he contends every year.

I see... but how can a university justify paying a coach millions of dollars? Where's the return on their investment?

    Are you serious?

Better coaches = Winning teams = more alumni contributions + better bowl games that pay more + better recruits...and on and on and on!

Bowl games. Big big money for the University.

    Look here: http://www.ncaafootball.com/index.php?s=&url_channel_id=17&url_article_id=4941 &url_subchannel_id=&change_well_id=2

Rose Bowl $15 million for a payout. There is where the University gets their cash. Not to mention the merchandizing. How many people do you see with various college gear?

    College football = big bucks!
