Chris Cooley: NFL needs to change how rookies are paid
Chris Cooley, tight end for the Redskins, wrote an article for Yahoo sports talking about rookies' wages.
Chris Mortenson, evidently, recently said (source) that players are happy with the money paid to rookies, and that he hasn't heard otherwise from any players he talks to. Here's proof that he's wrong.
The Cooley Zone: NFL needs to change how rookies are paid...I fell in the same boat as Witten with my rookie contract -- $600,000 signing bonus and the league minimum for three years. It took me those three years to establish myself as a solid football player in the NFL. Not until then did I receive a large contract -- six years, $30 million. So when someone can jump into the league and earn more than that without playing a single down, it’s hard to stomach...

LOL - good stuff here!
=Z=The NFL Combine is comparable to a strip club with owners and coaches for customers. The better the man looks running around in his spandex the more dollar bills end up on his stage. The funny thing is the onlookers at the combine are probably more excited than the creepy old man in the corner at the strip bar.
Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!

Good article and reflects a lot of what fans have said as well in recent years. Not surprised that Mortenson has

Flop Cooley. I've had him on my fantasy teams and he always screws me over. Fricken Redskin bastardo.

There was a thread about this going around not to long ago. I believe NP started it.

I don't know about rookies being underpaid.
These guys have mouths to feed, and how are they supposed to manage that if they're only getting $600,000?
Honestly, we should start a fund to benefit them, or maybe some United Way commercials to benefit starving linemen."If it's not fun, you're not doing it right. "
