    Is Chester Taylor Stupid?

I don't understand Chester Taylor's decision to sign with another team.

    [ul]
[li]He played on a team that barely missed the Super Bowl and was considered one of the top Super Bowl contenders next season. Is that not what every player's ultimate goal is?[/li]
[li]He was recognized as one half of maybe the best running back tandem in football.[/li]
[li]He was an excellent fit in Minnesota because Adrian's biggest weakness was the passing game, but it was Taylor's biggest strength. He quickly was recognized as one of the best 3rd down backs as he led the league in 3rd down receptions in his last season in Minny.[/li]
[li]He played for the Vikings for a long time and it's where he has had his best games and seasons by far.[/li]
    [/ul]

One thing is to leave the team, but to sign with the Chicago Bears... that really baffles me.

    [ul]
[li]He might have wanted more playing time, but the Bears have an even younger running back than Peterson in Matt Forte who had an impressive rookie season. Taylor is now 31 and is at the point of his career when his performance will only decrease. Forte will most likely only get better.[/li]
[li]Again, if he wanted more playing time, going to one of the few teams that maybe has a better receiving running backs is not the best idea.[/li]
[li]He choose a division rival which was one of the worst teams at the moment too.[/li]
    [li]Bears offense. Enough said![/li]
    [/ul]

Chester Taylor's statistics with the Bears as of week 12:

    CARRIES: 82, YARDS: 213, AVERAGE: 2.6, RECEPTIONS: 14, TOUCHDOWNS: 1

Then compare it to some of Taylor's seasons with the Vikings:

    2006 (without Adrian)
    CARRIES: 303 . . YARDS: 1,216 . . AVERAGE: 4.0 . . RECEPTIONS: 42 . . TOUCHDOWNS: 6

2007 (Adrian is rookie of the year)
    CARRIES: 157 . . YARDS: 844 . . AVERAGE: 5.4 . . RECEPTIONS: 29 . . TOUCHDOWNS: 7

2008 (Adrian is NFL's rushing leader)
    CARRIES: 101 . . YARDS: 399 . . AVERAGE: 4.0 . . RECEPTIONS: 45 . . TOUCHDOWNS: 6

There's only one good reason I can think of (yes, the Bears have a good record now, but he can't see into the future) which makes the signing with the Bears slightly understandable:

    M O N E Y

Perhaps the real question is: Does he play for the money or the sport?

Just by knowing that he isn't on this team is a clear statement that should help with everyones answer.

It was going to be his last contract and the dude wanted to get as much as he could. That meant signing someplace else.

Just so happens he has been rewarded by getting a front row seat (cause he ain't playing much) to watch a team make a push into the playoffs.
Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg

Maybe he just didn't want to play for Childress another year.

You should have paid the man. He was a perfect fit for you.

No one will ever be able to prove how expensive that was, but I have my own personal suspicions, and I'd add my own sense of relief that we didn't have to face that combination anymore.

    That is my guess.

Money or not, it is a win-win for him. He gets more money, no chilly, and a chance at a Super Bowl. I don't know anyone who would pass up a raise at work.

    Taylor made a good move.

    That's smart, not stupid.

He got a bunch of money, got away from the stupidity of Childress, and he's now just waiting for a chance to play on an excellent playoff-bound team.

If he gets that chance, no savvy person will be surprised when he excels.

And the way the injuries are going these days.....he could get his chance any time.
It's what you learn after you know it all that counts.

    Re: Is Chester Taylor Stupid?

The dude got paid a lot more to do the same job in a bigger market at an advanced stage of his career. What's stupid about this?

And by the way: The Bears have a shot at the playoffs, we realistically don't.

He made the right move. Good for him.

Of course that's your guess. Your blind hatred of Childress colors everything you contribute on this site. I'm surprised you haven't found a way to blame him for you not having a cupholder by your seat.

Which team had a better shot at the time he signed? Isn't that more important?

I urge you to make a list of good things Chilly has done. I would LOVE to see that. I am very interested to see what that would look like.
