    Re:Chargers release LT

Tomlinson says he's looking forward to signing with a contender

"I do know that I would have to go to a team that has a proven quarterback," Tomlinson said. "A place where you know you have a chance to win because of the quarterback."
If CT does leave, I would take this guy, he can block/catch better than AD for sure. But will he come here? He'd probably wait on BF to make it official to be our starting QB which will be during the 3rd week of preseason! LOL

So, in the "why not" category: since LT is released, approach him, to take Chester's spot. Then, trade Chester to San Diego for Cromartie. Uncapped year, so, pay him...not whatever it takes, but, enough so as he comes.

LT would be one helluva third down back. Now, I realize LT wants "Starter's money," but, let's face it, he's not a bellcow back anymore. He wants a ring...we are close.

Not sure if we would be a better Team with Cromartie and LT or with Chester and an unproven rookie or a castaway CB...however, I think we would be better. At a minimum, it makes for interesting discussion IMO.
Well because we can't trade Chester ... he is a free agent.

I would be all for bringing in LT though to replace Chester if the price is right, who knows if it will be.

As far as LT "not taking a pay cut" that was posturing and made sense. He did not want to reneg his contract and he didn't. He obviously will take less in the long run because he will have to take what he can get.

I don't know where he will get a real starting role and a shot at a ring though. So, it would be interesting to see us make an offer to him just to see what he says.

If we sign him, we need somebody else to sign one of our FAs for the same money.
Trading Chester doesn't work when we don't have him under contract. Plus there's no way in hell anybody would trade Cromartie for Chester even if he was under contract.

We can sign him because he was released before he reached FA. There was an article on PFT yesterday stating that the last 8 teams can sign players who are released.

And it's not like anyone is going to throw $5 mil at a backup. Whether LT likes it or not he's not getting paid, hell look at Shaun Alexander.

He might be a downgrade from CT at this point, but we have a gap we need to stop folks, discuss.

The talking heads said that he probably wouldn't get signed by anyone until late in camp.

Biggest reason is the same reason why the chargers let him go, wear and tear.

Was he a dominant back in his day? Yes, however, he was given every chance to be that guy (in a contract year) with the Chargers and couldn't do it.

No way in hell I want him on this team. I'd much rather take a hard look at Albert as a replacement for CT and if that doesn't pan out, then you go out and snatch one of the many Vets that will be out there with the thought in mind that the FA market this year is a glut with aging has been RB's.

Forget all the stats, records, age, salary etc ... lets use the good old PPO benchmark for FA pickups

Namely what's his Madden rating ?? :woohoo: :woohoo:

I like LT as a mentor to AD, I'm just not sure he'd accept the role nearly as well as CT did. LT wants to be "the" man, not the "3rd down" man. I think LT would be very effective in a limited role like CT was used... less carries keeps him fresh late into the year. I just don't believe it's a wise use of money, but again, it's not my money! I'd have no issue with them signing him.
The true measure of a man is what he'd do knowing he'd never be found out.

well noted and on the mark I think. Many forget how lucky we have been with CT who, since Peterson arrived, has never complained about the situation and just got on with his job. Replacing him will be hard and I don't think LT will be the solution.
