Chargers GM A.J. Smith Mocks LaDainian Tomlinson's Heartfelt Blog Post
Re: Chargers GM A.J. Smith Mocks LaDainian Tomlinson's Heartfelt Blog Post
Is there like a list of things you are too good for based on your salary somewhere?
Something along the lines of:
$40,000/year: the bus
$80,000/year: American beer
$200,000/year: your family
$500,000/year: class
I don't know, but Smith made me think of the last one.

Absolutely astounding the way this is going down to me. I can't believe they would even consider trading away their franchise guy and the best player in the history of their franchise ... and if they would consider it, I cannot believe that they would go about it with a battle of words in the press.
This very much is starting to remind me of the Favre situation last season and we saw what that did to the Packers. I think it crippled the Packers mindset ... if you are a player on these teams and see how unloyal they are being to the best player in franchise history, you know they don't give two shits about you.

And you guys (not necessarily you Midg) want to argue with me how much pull a GM has and how much a HC has......
Does anyone in thier right mind think Norv Turner is happy about losing first Turner and now having his other RB alienated?
Its at times like this that I kindof like the Triad thingamajib.
At least the owner will would/could step in if the Chiller and Rick were faced with a situation like this.

This is the same guy who rushed for more than 1,300 yards in six of the last seven seasons. Just in case you forgot: the NFL is a business.
and there it is a nutshell, all about the $$. The moment a player is less than stellar then out he goes.. anyone notice how Sean Alexander was dumped like a hot potato despite his good years for the 'hawks

Its never about the money.
The team should be loyal to the guy regardless of what his production is, especially if he is a local fan favorite who has done alot of work in the community....(Sarcasm)

Yes, I always feel sorry for people that get paid millions to play a game and then have to go elsewhere to get paid millions to continue to play a game.

I agree with that sentiment, but I still think Smith is being an asshole.
So it's a business.
Act like it.
Don't rip your employee in the press- not after he's gone, not when he's about to go, and definitely not when you're about to ask him to take a pay cut to come back.
What does he gain from his posturing other than a chance revel in his own smugness?

No doubt, he's a grade A asshole.
Tomlinson will still come out of the deal fine.
Things like that happen every day to people making a peasants salary and they have to just deal with it.
When you're a multi-millionaire it's much easier to make a transition.
