    Rule 8, Section 1, Article 3, Item 1

If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (without or without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball after he touches the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone.
If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete.
By the rule, not a catch. The call is correct.
I don't think that is the issue here. Clearly the rule should be looked at.

We can just keep going around and round

But it was called how they felt was right due to the book

We may not agree.. But that's that.. It was called by the book.. We don't like it..

    End of story

Change the rule, then it will be end of story.

I think anyone who has ever played catch knows that was a catch.

Catch then down by contact. Ground can't cause a fumble.
    Ground can cause an incompletion.

Lions' Jim Schwartz: Not my job to judge ruling

On a side note, anyone catch Coach Schwartz' end of game press conference.....I find it interesting that Coach Schartz said that one play didn't cost them the game.

Kindof how I feel. If you are in a tight game like that, you obviously blew alot more chances to beat the team and not just that one play.

Can a play like this make it look like the refs control the game? I guess, but if the team wouldn't have made other mistakes it wouldn't have been that close and that play wouldn't have mattered now would've it.
Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg

Correct. Had it been in the middle of the field it would have been an incompletion as well.

The rule sucks, I agree. But the officials made the correct call according to the rule. When going to the ground while in the process of making a catch, the receiver must maintain control of the ball through the entire process.

That was the beauty of FOX having Perreira on their staff. As the review was happening, they dialed him up from his war room (or whatever FOX is calling it) and had him interpret the results. He called it exactly how it was called on the review.

A result with which I happen to agree. Sucky rule, but it's clear as day. When Megatron rolls over and puts the ball on the ground, it comes loose. Incomplete. An NFL player should know better than to be careless like that.
