Camp primer: Summer rituals, big stories and great food

    4. Tarvaris Jackson: Quarterback or millstone? Conventional wisdom says the Vikings are Super Bowl worthy except for one minor detail: Tarvaris Jackson, come on down. I don't know how you go far without a quarterback opponents respect, but we might find out. The Vikes have Adrian Peterson. Opponents have eight-man fronts. The key for Minnesota is how quickly Jackson develops or self-destructs. Coach Brad Childress seems sold on him, and here's hoping he's right. The Vikings' future -- and Childress' -- might depend on him.

The Noon Special at Pagliai's Pizza, Mankato, Minn.: Every year Bob Hagan, Tom West and I make a pit stop at Pagliai's, usually for lunch and always around noon. I've already put in for a pepperoni pizza, and keep coming with those iced teas. Here's the good news: The bill is little more than $5. Now the bad: The Vikings leave town in mid-August.
    Has anyone ate here?

yep. They have been there for decades and I have eaten there for about 25 years. Nearby is the former Tj Finnegans pub which is now being totally remodeled and turned into a very contemporary upscale bar called Red Sky.
