    C. Martin close to breaking B. Sanders record.

Just what the Lions need, another blow to their franchise this year.

Jets | Martin enduring tough season; close to setting NFL Record
    Thu, 8 Dec 2005 17:01:29 -0800

Randy Lange, of the Bergen Record, reports New York Jets RB Curtis Martin (knee) has been suffering from a nagging knee injury throughout this season and stated that this year has been one of the most challenging of his career. "It's been very tough," Martin said. "This has been one of my more challenging years if not my most challenging year physically." This year, Martin is just 265 yards shy of setting the NFL record for most consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, breaking a tie with former Detroit Lions RB Barry Sanders. "I've never been a goal guy [but] this is one I think would be special," Martin said. "I have to understand that this would be special, not for myself but just for everyone who's a part of it."

I wish he would break Emmitt Smith's record for most yards...but he probably won't last that long!

No doubt, that was a record that really bothered me. I'm not a big fan of Emmitt Smith limping along at the end of his career and taking the most yards record.

Emmitt Smith is one of the most overrated running backs the NFL has ever seen. He ran behind an offensive line that was chaulk full of pro bowlers. Then later on in his career he basically embarassed himself by prolonging his career just to break the record. I remember watching his "highlights" after he broke that record. All they could really show is him running through gapping holes. You didnt see him making people miss, having many change of direction plays, or out running anyone. He is a north and south runner, not even that much of a bruiser back. Just all around average features to him with a great line.

As for Curtis I dont know how you cant like this guy. he doesnt talk all the crap, he goes out and does his job and has been a model for consistancy throughout his career, I'd take him on my team any day

I haven't had to root for Martin much considering he has played for 2 teams that have little significance to me but I sure like the guy.

When he says the record would not just be important for himself, but for all that he has played with, I totally believe him. All the interviews with him and about him, have been very positive and he seems to be a genuine guy.

I too wish he could chase Smith, but I doubt he will play long enough.
