The Business of Football
The most recent issue of The Economist published an interesting story on the NFL as a business. In particular it explores the success of the NFL under Tagliabue and why NFL teams as a whole are so profitable compared to other sports.

I found this figure interesting. The NFL does do a good job for the most part, like any organization there is always room for improvement. On a relative scale they are doing better then the other big $ professional sports.

I do not know if that bar graph takes into account that the NHL with the new CBA reduced all players salaries by 25%, and have a hard salary cap which only the NFL had up to that point. What we've got here is failure to communicate.

I doubt that the graph does take the new CBA into account. Nevertheless, the comparably lower average salary growth for the NFL helps to understand why it's a profitable business.
