Patriots | Injury update: T. Bruschi
    Thu, 3 Aug 2006 14:34:23 -0700

John Tomase, of the Boston Herald, reports New England Patriots LB Tedy Bruschi (wrist) suffered a possible break to the scaphoid bone in his wrist, an injury that could sideline him for at least six weeks if it requires surgery. The Patriots do not yet know the severity of the injury, which could simply be a sprain. Scaphoid injuries are tough to diagnose because the bone is the size of a peanut. Misdiagnosed or left untreated, the injury can be severe. Dr. Bill Morgan, former team doctor for the Boston Red Sox and chief of the Bone and Joint Center at Caritas St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, said the Patriots appear to be taking the proper approach by putting Bruschi in a splint for a week in advance of further testing. Morgan said he dealt with similar situations that simply couldn't be diagnosed immediately. If Bruschi has merely suffered a sprain, he'd likely miss just a week or two. If it's broken, Morgan said the next step is usually to insert a screw into the bone to ensure proper healing.

Whatever it is, he'll come back quickly. He seems like the type of guy that would pay hurt if they would let him.

Patriots | Bruschi broke his right wrist
    Fri, 18 Aug 2006 05:49:24 -0700

John Tomase, of the Boston Herald, reports New England Patriots LB Tedy Bruschi (wrist) broke his right wrist. Bruschi has a broken scaphoid bone in his right wrist. The injury was going to sideline him for training camp regardless of which one he broke, but it's worth noting the break occurred in Bruschi's dominant hand. The hope is that he'll be ready for the regular-season opener Sept. 10.
