NFL | Bentley suffers season-ending injury

    Associated Press

LeCharles Bentley, a two-time Pro Bowl center and Cleveland's prized free-agent signing of the off-season, suffered a season-ending injury to his left knee on the first 11-on-11 drill of training camp yesterday.

Browns general manager Phil Savage said Bentley tore his patellar tendon and would undergo surgery as early as today. Savage would not speculate on a time frame for his recovery.

Bentley had been the Eagles' No. 1 free-agent priority in the off-season. The team thought it had a deal with the former New Orleans Saints center, but he signed with Cleveland, his hometown team.

Yesterday, tight end Kellen Winslow had his first contact after missing the last two seasons with major leg injuries. The Browns are also without wide receiver Braylon Edwards, their first-round pick in 2005, who is expected to be out until Oct. 1 after knee surgery.

    Re: broke down Bentley

Oh wow, that is terrible, the Browns get hooped every year. They made some good offseason moves, with Bentley being the best of the bunch, and then this. With an improved Baltimore, and healthy QBs in Pittsburgh and Cinci the Browns needed all the help the could get, not season enders at the start of camp.

Too bad for the Browns, lets hope nothing like that happens in our camp, or for that any camp in the NFL. It sucks when the stars aren't on the field.
