Browns | Sign Russell to Offer Sheet - from www.KFFL.com
Sat, 2 Apr 2005 08:50:24 -0800
Tony Grossi, of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports an NFL source has said the Cleveland Browns have signed restricted free agent S Brian Russell (Vikings) to an offer sheet Friday, April 1. Terms of the deal were undisclosed. The Minnesota Vikings now have seven days to match the offer, but are not expected to do so after previously adding S Darren Sharper in free agency. Since Russell went undrafted as a rookie, the Browns would not owe the Vikings any draft pick compensation.

Re: Brian Russell
I personally think losing him was a mistake. It's all about depth. Injuries happen.

Re: Brian Russell
I wish Russell nothing but the best. He has talent and could get there one day. By the way, he is restricted isn't he? Do we get anything for his departure?

Re: Brian Russell
Well he isn't gone yet, we still have seven days to match their offer (I have no idea how much it is). Russell is a below average starter, but is definitely a good backup.
Therefore if The browns give him more than 1 million a year, let him go, otherwise I think we should keep him for depth.

Re: Brian Russell
Agreed. Yes, he is not the best. But, we need to have a player with experience as a back-up. That is depth.
