    Book Review: NFL Unplugged

I saw an excerpt from the book "NFL Unplugged" by Anthony Gargano on a website a couple weeks back and got on Amazon to order it. Just finished it last night and, I must say, it was a fabulous read. Gargano is a former sportswriter who covered the Eagles and has gotten many former NFL players to comment on the inside aspects of the game.

    From the book jacket:
"NFL Unplugged" takes you behind the scenes and beyond the glitz and pageantry of professional football to discover the pros as you will never see them on TV."
And that's a fair intro to the book.

Here's just a quick sample concerning NFL Hall-of-Famer John Randle:
Strahan and Sapp you sort of get, two extroverts, incessant talkers and chop-busters, heavy on the mama jokes and ugly jokes, attention hogs who viewed the field as proprietors because they were that good. Class-clown crazy.
Now, John Randle was stay-away-from crazy, the kind that borders sanity just enough to leave him be.

Randle also used to study newspaper clippings to find dirt on his opponents. He was more like a serial stalker, however, than, say, Briant Mitchell, who was looking for the name of a wife or a girlfriend to use as bait. Randle knew their kids' names and any past legal problems, domestic abuse issues or DUIs. It was all fodder for Sunday.
I highly recommend this book. If you love NFL football, add this to your Christmas list. You won't regret it.
