Best team ever? Da Bears, 1985
Mark Craig: Best team ever? Da Bears, 1985
For this reporter, Ditka's lineup is the real force the Patriots are chasing as they try to unseat the Dolphins as the only team to go undefeated.

The 1972 Dolphins weren't even favored to win Super Bowl VII.
How do I remember this? Well, you're looking at someone who bet against them....
Re: Best team ever? Da Bears, 1985
The 85 Bears were something to watch on the field as well as off.
Who remembers when a certain QB from that team became a Viking.
I almost despised that guy as much as I did Lord "I pronounce my last name wrong" Favreeeeeeee
;D

I do, I do!
I was at that game when Buckley uttered these infamous words..........
"McMahon can't throw that far"
Re: Best team ever? Da Bears, 1985
I think there was some 80's 49er teams that were more balanced offense/defense IMO
But the 46 Defense was a sight to behold.
I hated that Jimmy Mac was on our team,Im glad that didnt last long...I agree with the farve comparision Marr...it was hard for me to root for someone I basically hated
::)
Re: Best team ever? Da Bears, 1985
I remember sitting in a bar watching the Vikings/Chicago Thursday night game at Minnesota -- I think it was the third game of the season.
Jim McMahon was not playing because of a sore neck. The rumor was he hurt it head butting his own offensive linemen after a score.
I don't remember who was the backup QB was, but the Vikes were playing lights out and leading 17-9 late in the third Q. What an upset in the making. McMahon finally came in the game and he fired three TD passes (most of them long) and led the Bears to a 33-24 win. I was devestated.

Won '85 Super Bowl. So best team of '84? All the best team ever talk has to include multiple championships. So the Bears don't qualify.

How so?
Every championship-winning team changes from one year to the next.
In judging which single team was the best, you have to take each team as an entity during their championship-winning season.
Example:
in both 1988 and 1989, the San Francisco 49ers won the Super Bowl.
However, when discussing the great teams of all-time, the '88 Niners are NEVER mentioned, while the '89 Niners are often mentioned.
The 1985 Chicago Bears were the greatest team that I've seen in my 30+ years of watching NFL football.
