Re: Bears Knowingly Drafted a Player With a Herniated Disc, Defend the Decision

Surprising to me they would risk a high pick knowing of this problem. I would expect that of Millen, not the Bears.

But when they start doing crap like this, or saying things like "there is no rhyme or reason to anything we are doing", you start to question how qualified people like Lovie Smith and the rest of the FO really are.
God forbid they sign a quarterback or anything either.

Well, you start to see your team/franchise falling into the tank and then you start grasping at straws.

Well we drafted peterson knowing he was injury prone and had a collarbone issue at the time

I didn't read the story posted here, but I thought I read in another story that at the time they didn't know it was herniated. Everyone just thought it was a lesser injury. Then when he started practicing and it hurt, they got some tests redone and found out it was herniated.
Given the scrutiny that teams put players through and the barrage of tests and medicals that often require then I don't believe that they suddenly found this out.... if they missed it then somene needs firing and if they ignored it then someone needs firing. Either way another monumental cock-up on their behalf.

Just because they're "professionals" (which they are not in the true sense of the word), does not make them good at their job...

a year old broken collar bone is nothing compared to a herniated disk.
Go ask anyone you know who has that problem, and 9 times out of 10 they'll tell you they would rather have broken their collarbone.

and he wasn't injury prone, he was coming off an injury, huge difference.
