Years of Spielman drafts beg to differ.

He's got about two hits (not counting Gerhart, too early to make a call on him)
Even after I laid all the picks out, your still saying that? WOW. How good do you want him to be?

A HOF'r with every pick? Again, as I said in that thread, I challenge you to come up with a few GMs who do as good as you think he should.

Long story short, am I a fan of Spielman? No, but it isn't like he is crap when it comes to doing his job.

His picks aren't even good. He has about two actual good players drafted in Miami. Other than that, they were mostly all backups. Most GM's hit occasionally, Spielman has missed far more it seems
    A HOF'r with every pick?
Of course not. But you laid out about an 8 year sample right? I counted four potential elite players. Peterson, Harvin, Rice and Greenway.

Remains to be seen. He's had a few good picks with Minnesota. Very, very few with Miami. Jury is still out on who made the call on those Minny picks as well. Signs point to Chilly.

yep I'll support this move for the fact that it has the potential to screw Atlanta big time for the next couple of years as a minimum. This could be Atlanta's equivalent to the Walker trade.
Trading using maybe a couple of picks is one thing but this wasn't a smart move IMO.

Re: The Atlanta Julio Jones trade.

I LOVE trading to go get your guy, but this one was ridiculous. Are you telling me that was the Browns drop dead deal? They would have said no to a 1st rounder, second rounder and two 4ths?
The Falcons definitely did not need to give up TWO first rounders, even if they are in the Championship game or better and they are only picks 30 and 32, that is a whole helluva lot.
I HAVE to think they could have gotten that pick for cheaper if they had held to it ... but if they think Julio Jones gets them a Super Bowl this year or next, more power to them.
I would think they would move up and go for Patrick Peterson considering how dreadful their secondary can be at times ... and secondary/LB depth is always available later in drafts, if you didn't give up your entire draft to get a No. 2 wide receiver.

here's your list. Removing the Vikings, we all know about them
    2003
    Eddie Moore LB Miss
Wade Smith T Hit Been around since 03, has never succeeded anywhere. Bounces around the league
    Taylor Whitley G Miss
Donald Lee TE Hit One decent player
    J.R. Tolver WR Miss
    Corey Jenkins DB Miss
    Tim Provost T Miss
Yeremiah Bell DB Hit Two decent players. Ok, not great
    Davern Williams DT Miss

    2002
Seth McKinney C Hit PLayed 8 years, three teams, started 2 seasons with the Dolphins and they let him go
Randy McMichael TE Hit Decent TE, average, three decent players
Omare Lowe DB Hit Garbage player, 6 teams, 7 seasons, one career start.
    Sam Simmons WR Miss
    Leonard Henry RB Miss
    2001
Jamar Fletcher DB Hit 12 starts in 9 seasons, 5 teams, a handful of tackles and very few picks/fumbles. Not agood player
Chris Chambers WR Hit Four decent players
Travis Minor RB Hit 4 career starts, not very good numbers
Morlon Greenwood LB Hit 5 decent players
    Shawn Draper T Miss
    Brandon Winey T Miss
    Josh Heupel QB Miss
Otis Leverette DE Hit In what ungodly world do you consider this a hit?
    Rick Crowell LB Miss
    2000
Todd Wade T Hit six decent players
    Ben Kelly DB Miss
    Deon Dyer RB Miss
Arturo Freeman DB Hit umm.... yeahhhhh.... maybe not
    Ernest Grant DT Miss
    Jeff Harris DB Miss
    1999
    J.J. Johnson RB Miss
Rob Konrad RB Hit I'm assuming he's a fullback (I hope to god for his sake he was) I don't remember him, so I can't really say too much
Grey Ruegamer C Hit Career backup
    Cecil Collins RB Miss
    Bryan Jones LB Miss
    Brent Bartholomew P Miss
Jermaine Haley DT Hit See comment for Otis Leverette
    Joe Wong G Miss
    1998
    John Avery RB Miss
Patrick Surtain DB Hit Finally, an actual GOOD player; Seven
Kenny Mixon DE Hit Meh, wasn't anything special. Wasn't awful, but wasn't remotely GOOD. I'll give him one; eight
Brad Jackson LB Hit Comments like this make me seriously doubt your ability to grade players
    Larry Shannon WR Miss
Lorenzo Bromell DT Hit Alot of production for very few plays, I'm guessing as a pass rushing specialist Again, I wouldn't exactly call this a hit.
    Scott Shaw G Miss
    Nathan Strikwerda C Miss
    John Dutton QB Miss
    Jim Bundren G Miss

So out of all those players. There are less than ten decent players. A bunch of those players really shouldn't even count, but I was feeling generous.

ten out of ~70 is NOT good, no matter how you slice it. hitting on 14% of the players is just straight up awful.

So, unless your qualification for being a good player is that you have feet, most of these guys are not good players.

I think he's had more hits with the Vikings than his whole career in Miami. And he often had much better picks with Miami.

Of the hits, I recognized about 75% of them. The misses, far less. Ryan leaf was in the league for 4 years, does that make him a hit?

While I feel we had bigger needs to fill Rudolph looks to be a darn solid player.

Do you consider him a bust at this point?

He probably won't be a bust, but dumb pick? Absolutely
