With the NFL draft eight days away, ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr. expects the Atlanta Falcons to be movers and shakers in the early portion of the draft.

The Falcons hold the eighth pick after moving up two spots in the Matt Schaub trade with the Houston Texans.

Kiper believes Calvin Johnson, a wide receiver he has rated as the top player in the draft, would help quarterback Michael Vick and the Falcons' offense.

    You didn't provide a link to your story & it appears it has since been re-titled;

yeah im sure everyone would love to see cj in purple but wide outs in the nfl are hit or miss in the nfl so i dont think it would be worth tradin all those picks away to get em

If they could pull it off, why couldn't we?
Because the Vikings realize it isn't worth trading away draft picks needed to continue the rebuilding process for one player who may be lost to an injury, etc.
They are not susceptible to the agent-driven hypoerbole evidenced in videos produced to show only the players' strengths and none of his weaknesses.

    next question?

So, where do the Vikings find a #1 Reciever? We keep signing guys proclaiming that they are great #3 guys and add depth, but that only works if you have a #1 and a #2 guy. Where? Where? Where?

You tell me where and I'll start
    clamoring for those guys.
No real #1 avail in FA this year.
Could be somebody released after the draft, however.....

Pending that, it the best hope might be somebody like Sidney Rice with pick number 41.

TFY's Draft guide (magazine I subscribe to has the following in it)

A natural pass catcher who has been ultra-productive in one of the nation's toughest conferences.
Rice offers a lot of skill and potential as a number one receiver.
Needs to physically mature and improve his route-running yet with proper coaching and the right attitude he can be a factor.

Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg

    Kiper is an idiot.
    Yeah, Atlanta could move up.
    So could the Vikings.
But there is nothing that is saying that it would be a good move for either of them.
Or that either one of them are actually thinking about.

What would Atlanta give up to move?
Just because Kiper says it would help doesn't mean that the management would be willing to pay the HUGE price tag.
He also doesn't say what he thinks Atlanta should offer to move up.

This is just Kiper trying to generate some extra buzz before the draft.

I am sure that every team in the top ten will be making some type of offer to move up and get CJ.
But I doubt any team will ake a big enough one to pull it off.

Wow....Mel the Magnificent really went out on a limp with that bold prediction.
So….does anyone disagree that that same quote could be written 31 other ways and still be a true statement?

If CJ truly is the stud that everyone thinks he is….I am guessing that there are 31 other QB’s that he could help.
I’m sure Kiper spends a lot of time with his boards….but come on….he is nothing more then a palm reader….
Everything he says can be interpreted in 20 different ways…..all the fan has to do is use Kipe’s words to fit their situation….and he is a genius!
I'd much rather see the Packers miss the playoffs because of their talent then because of their injuries.
