With the NFL draft eight days away, ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr. expects the Atlanta Falcons to be movers and shakers in the early portion of the draft.

The Falcons hold the eighth pick after moving up two spots in the Matt Schaub trade with the Houston Texans.

Kiper believes Calvin Johnson, a wide receiver he has rated as the top player in the draft, would help quarterback Michael Vick and the Falcons' offense.

If they could pull it off, why couldn't we?

Because we would have to give up alot.

Getting Calvin would sure be exciting, but I would rather move down than up.

Because the Vikings realize it isn't worth trading away draft picks needed to continue the rebuilding process for one player who may be lost to an injury, etc.
They are not susceptible to the agent-driven hypoerbole evidenced in videos produced to show only the players' strengths and none of his weaknesses.

    next question?

When we stop to think about it, most folks behavior isn't perplexing after all !

i'm sure you know, i'm with yah.
the thing is alot of teams might be calling so it becomes a case of who gives up more.
if we can't do it, than move down i say, but we better sure as hell try.
look at atlanta, petrino was brought in to try to get a team over the top after underachieving.
    they aren't rebuilding.
childress came in with the same premise 9-7 team, won 7 of their last 9.
but no other people wanna make it seem like we are a rebuilding team.
maybe now, that we screwed up the last 2 years but not becuz we were purging cuz of being cap strapped or having no talent.
    what a crock

    another thing.
everyone forgets that as bad as tice was, we were in the top 5 in rushing 2 years in a row.
it wasn't becuz bennet, m.williams, and onterio were awesome, or that liwenski, rosenthal, and m.johnson were opening up gaping holes, or becuz culpepper is a hall of famer.
its cuz you had to respect moss, and if you didnt we made you pay.
    but our defense sucked.
so now we have a solid defense, some things to work with on offense, but trading up for a guy who instantly will demand extra coverage is a terrible idea.
explain that one to me perplex, oh man of the wise and all knowing.

    next question?

So, where do the Vikings find a #1 Reciever? We keep signing guys proclaiming that they are great #3 guys and add depth, but that only works if you have a #1 and a #2 guy. Where? Where? Where?

You tell me where and I'll start
    clamoring for those guys.

I don't see the Falcons moving up to get Calvin; then how will they be able to blame their receivers for not getting seperation and hide the fact that Vick cannot throw accurate passes consistently?
