    Pros/Cons
    Both are considered pretty good.

Both are about the same hieght.
One is younger than the other.

Long term contract might be worth spending some of our cap on.
Winfield seems to be a bit more productive, however, he does have more experience.
When will age start affecting his play?
Will Samuel keep getting better or has he peaked?
We would probably have to give up more than just Winfield.
Samuel had a shoulder injury other than that couldn't find anything else on either.

    Your stats are wrong.
Why use ESPN when the NFL has all the official stuff?

    Asante Samuel:
    Defensive Stats
    Year
Team G Total Tkl Ast Sacks Int Yds Avg Lg TD Pass Def
    2003 New England Patriots 16 34 30.0 4 0 2 55 27.5 55 1 5

    2006 New England Patriots 15 64 59.0 5 0 10 120 12.0 33 0 14
    TOTAL

    59 188 167.0 21 0 16 224 14.0 55 2 43

Okay, now that I look closer, I think it's just the pasting which screwed up that last line.
I was wondering how someone could have 12 picks and 0 return yards.

In any case, please stop comparing Samuel's situation to Winfield's.
Antoine is specifically upset with the team's management, NOT his money.
Samuel is on the perfect team, where the QB took less money to make sure that more was available for the rest of the players and he's still not fucking happy.
AND he has his agent screaming loudly in the press for him while he blows off a FUNERAL (classy touch, that one).

    =Z=
There situations are very different which is why maybe a trade is possible. Assante wants more money, which the vikings have, antwoin wants a chance to win, which the patriots have. Plus the vikings are rebuilding, they don't want a guy that will be on the downslope of his career in a couple of years when the rest of the team is reaching there peak.

I would be heated if we traded him! I hate the Patriot's worse then the Packer's.

Yeah, another bad trade ...but Asuante MIGHT just be worth it, while like said Winfield could downslope in production

Deion Branch got notta from the Patrits, Samuel will get nothing from the Patriots.
It's just the way they do business and to be honest I can't bash them about it one bit because they have been the most successful franchise in the new millenium.

I would welcome a trade straight up for winfield though.

I think you guys are evaluating Samuel on one (I repeat 1) good year, Winfield has had solid production for 4 or 5. He doesn't get alot of
INT's but he tackles like a linebacker. I don't agree with coasting until training camp, but the guy is a proven vet and we don't have a whole lot of those, so keep him happy. If Samuel can do what he did last year for 3 or 4 then come talk about money....

Once we get our roster to a point that there are a plethera of rooks/1 year/2 year players waiting in the wings, then we to can take a dispationate approach to how we handle players that want to buck the system like the patriots do.
IMHO I think that this is the approach that the org would like to be at now.
Basically if you don't want to be here, we don't want you here.

Again, we are a few years from that happening to "Key" players such as Winfield.

Brady got ALL of his money...he just restructured HOW he gets it...so let's not talk about how he is SUCH a team guy so fast....he's getting his just like everyone else
I guess I was wrong on this one also Caj as I thought Brady got/will get all his money and didn't really take a pay cut as Z so poignantly pointed out.

    Its a reasonable trade idea.
    Except one thing.

Chilli and the boyz wouldn't go for it.

BB, normally I agree with you on this, however, I am not so sure the org wouldn't at this point.

They have shown a willingness to jettison players no matter how important/significant the are to the team.

There is only a few guys in the NFL that is justified to get the money they do and Brady is one of them.
