Article - analysis of top pass rushing teams
Interesting article.
It mostly discusses why the Raiders actually have a good pass rush.
But they also rank the Vikings as the #1 pass rushing defensive line in the NFL as of last week.
The article below is at the NY Times website, but the stats are by football outsiders.
The Success of a Pass Rush Isn’t Measured by Just Sacks
By AARON SCHATZ
The difference between the powerhouse National Football Conference East and the weaker divisions in the N.F.L. can be summed up with one word: pressure. Two of the top pass rushes in the league will be on display when the Giants face the Cowboys on Sunday night. Only a handful of teams outside the division can muster a pass rush to equal them: the Steelers, the Vikings and the Raiders...
When the age of the Vikings came to a close, they must have sensed it. Probably, they gathered together one evening, slapped each other on the back and said, "Hey, good job." - Jack Handey [Deep Thoughts]

Re: Article - analysis of top pass rushing teams
Interesting article.
The four teams higher than Oakland include Pittsburgh and Dallas, which lead the league, each with 45 actual sacks, but neither comes out with the best pass rush according to adjusted sack rate. That title goes to the Vikings, with an adjusted sack rate of 9.0 percent.Kansas City has only six sacks for an adjusted sack rate of 2.8 percent.
Both of these points have one thing in common...Jared Allen.Any man who afflicts the human race with ideas must be prepared to see them misunderstood. - H.L. Mencken

And the only real difference between last year and this? Jared Allen. The man is worth every penny we gave him, well besides the $90k that Goodell is now using to warm his home (that S.O.B.) *i know he doesn't really have it, but i wouldn't put it past him*The four teams higher than Oakland include Pittsburgh and Dallas, which lead the league, each with 45 actual sacks, but neither comes out with the best pass rush according to adjusted sack rate. That title goes to the Vikings, with an adjusted sack rate of 9.0 percent. Minnesota, like Oakland, has faced some of the league’s best pass defenses; it has played three of the top six teams in fewest sacks allowed and will play two more, the Falcons and the Giants, in its final three games.
Instead of having players play the league, the NFL should have the players that are fined give it to a charity instead. The NFL doesn't need anymore money and that money would go to people who need it. *and no i don't agree with the whole spread the wealth concept*

Re: Article - analysis of top pass rushing teams
I have been saying it for a while now. We have the BEST pass rush in the league. Yes, better than the Cowboys, Giants and Steelers.
We are ALWAYS in QBs faces. Sometimes we have a little problem over-pursuing and allowing the QB to elude and make a big play, but we get in regularly.
Anyone I know who watches the Vikings regularly comments on how good Allen is. He flat out is the best pass rusher in the league ... and is the main reason this defense is starting to look dominant.

Re: Article - analysis of top pass rushing teams
The top 10 best defenses in the NFL, according to stats (yards per game) :
1 Pittsburgh Steelers
2 Baltimore Ravens
3 Philadelphia Eagles
4 Tennessee Titans
5 Washington Redskins
6 New York Giants
7 Dallas Cowboys
8 Minnesota Vikings
9 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
10 Carolina Panthers
Nice to finally see us in the top 10!
Our run defense is the best in the league and our pass defense is greatly improved (much because of an improved pass rush, going from one of the worst to one of the best)
As for the number of defensive sacks and safeties, here are the top 5 teams in the NFL :
1 Dallas Cowboys
2 Pittsburgh Steelers
3 Minnesota Vikings
4 Philadelphia Eagles
5 New York Giants
When was it the last time the Vikings were ranked in the top 3 in sacks?

According to your last list, Vikes are 4th best, therefore, not "top 3".
