Re: Another Blackout On The Horizon

I would like to know how many blackouts the NFL averages each year.

Is this part of the economy or is this just a total lack of interest in bad teams?

Near blackouts and blackouts are not good for any team.

I've always sorta wondered why they started an NFL team in Jacksonville, FLA. Their Population is only 794,555 (Twin cities' is 2,367,204) and it's not a huge television market. They would need a little under 10% of the cities population to show up to avoid a blackout. I have a feeling this franchise isn't going to be around much longer.

Lets pray that the Lions get black out, we don't need too many Lions fans their.

    I know

    Potus,

As long as you have the Direct TV Ticket, blackouts will never effect you..

It marks Jacksonville's first blackout since 2004. The Jaguars blacked out 12 of 16 home games in 2003 and 2004 before covering up seats to reduce stadium capacity and lower ticket sales requirements.
If any team needs to move to LA, it is a team like this.
Don't forget... The "Governator" says he wants 2 NFL teams in the LA area.
LA needs one single viable modern NFL stadium before any team moves there.

Not true. The local blackout rules apply even to DirecTV Sunday Ticket subscribers. If a game is blacked out in the local market, the subscribers in that local area won't get that game on either the local channel or the sunday ticket channel.

Well, the Lions needed to sell 2000 more tickets between yesterday at this time and right now.
And I haven't' seen anything saying they made it yet...

This prompts the question about NFL Sunday ticket.
If NFL Sunday Ticket were to offer a
"Team Package" so a person could just watch the out of market team they like, that $$ and viewer could be counted towards total attendence. They are fans of that team and are there every week, just not in the stands. In the new "On Demand" world we live in this is the future.
Think about this: Teams could build smaller stadiums, less overhead, less real estate used for the specific task of having a huge stadium with endless empty parking lots that just collect dust when game are not played.
Overall cost for the team fan would be less than current tickets due to "On Demand" TV money. Every team would be fighting for not only local fans but national fans as well.

    Just my thoughts.

    Not true Ned.

Direct TV blacks out the coverage of the blacked out games in those markets affected by the local blackouts as well.

If you're in the Detroit area or the local market there that airs the game & the game gets blackedout, you won't get to see the game even if you have Direct TV.

Are DIRECTV packages affected by sports blackouts? DIRECTV is the provider of the most comprehensive sports programming line-up in the digital home entertainment industry. Note that this programming is subject to league blackout rules and broadcast guidelines.
