The Chiefs have placed its franchise tag on defensive end Jared Allen, according to NFL Network's Adam Schefter. The move could keep Allen in Kansas City for one more year, but it will likely be the last one for Allen.

Re: Allen franchised by Chiefs
Conversation gets more stimulating if one actually reads the article.
Looks like they get a bargain until they have to resign him to a long term contract.Defensive ends
Player............Total
Julius Peppers $12,437,500
Jason Taylor $9,519,625
Justin Smith $8,644,000
Jevon Kearse $7,063,890
Michael Strahan $6,728,285
Franchise: $8.879 million
Transition: $7.679 million
Strahan almost retired.
Taylor was a recent D-MVP.
Smith is going to be on the market?? Maybe?
Kearse and Peppers have been judged has beens on this board.
Makes you wonder if it is worth the Tag and Contract.
The Tag alone seems like a bargain.

It's looking pretty obvious we're gonna have to use our number 1 on a DE, especially in light of Udeze's situation. I was hoping for OL, DB or maybe a sure handed WR...but, DE seems unavoidable now.

Re: Allen franchised by Chiefs
Pretty big risk on a 2 strike player in the substance abuse program of the NFL.. but a long term is even filled with more risk.. talent wise worth it.

If so, the numbers may not be accurate.
According to the Free Agency Terms post that Singer put up from Vikings.com, the Franchise and Transition "rates" depend upon the salaries of the top-5 at the end of April, 2008.
So, conceivably, that could change.
=Z=
Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!

Re: Allen franchised by Chiefs
I am not sure what to think of him after seeing him on VH1 where they had football players give their video playlist and his two songs were
1) Wham- Careless Whisper
2)Rick Springfield- Jesse's girl
Now, he is either a real messed up guy with issues,in which case I wouldn't want him around or he has a real sick sense of humor that I can really appreciate and in that case i want us to sign him next year.
