adam schefter reports possible tony gonzalez trade

    http://blogs.nfl.com/2008/09/24/could-te-gonzalez-play-for-another-team/

Then, the question was posed to Gonzalez on Wednesday and he set the record straight. While it might not be the ideal scenario, he could see himself going to Chiefs management and requesting a trade to a Super-Bowl contender.

“Yeah. I definitely could, but I love being a Chief,” Gonzalez said Wednesday. “But if it was something where it was going to take three or four years or whatever before they get this thing right, I think it would be in their best interest to maybe see what they can get and send me off.
This would give our offense another deep threat and a good, big target for the red zone and 3rd downs. He's 32, but he looks like he's got a good 2 years left in him. We should seriously consider trading for him, if the price is right. Let's face it, Shank isn't cutting it.

I wouldn't complain. He's getting old, but if he can catch the ball consistently I wouldn't mind. But who/what would we give up for him? Probably draft picks, maybe a good young player with lots of upside. But he would definitely be an upgrade.
    WE CAN BUILD ON THIS!!!

    In AP I trust

    Not interested.

    I like Shiancoe.

Gonzalez is a very short term guy.

So is this window of opportunity.

Sure, Shiancoe will make a nice play from time to time, but he isn't nearly consistent enough to be that big go to tight end yet.
Gonzalez is still one of the best and would give our passing game a big reliable target, albeit short term.
Plus there is much Shiancoe could learn from Gonzo.

    Chuch.

Even though he would be a great solution for the short term, even if the window is small for us, I'm not totally sure I'd want this, we know that the Chiefs would ask a lot for him, and I wouldn't want to give up a ton for a guy who won't be around for long.

I believe we have deliusions of grandure.
Offseason Guy: Hey we should trade for McNabb
    Vikes Fan:
NO way TJ is way better than McNabb

Offseason Guy: Hey we should draft/sign a decent TE
Vikes Fan: No way Shank is awesome, no TE in our run offense will have a ton of catches.

In Kansas City, he was asked to be the main guy in the passing game up until the emergence of Dwayne Bowe. He won't have to be the main guy here, nor will we expect 100+ catches like he put up in KC. For this, he'll probably be able to play 3, if not 4 more years.

Think about what he'll do for our passing game. Teams don't respect Shiancoe. They'll do the bare minimum to cover him, and if they give up 1 big play to him all game, they figure 'oh well.' Teams will have to respect Gonzalez's speed, route running, and play-making abilities in the red zone and on 3rd downs. It'll open up the passing game and give more opportunities for Berrian and Rice to be in single coverage with the safety keeping an eye out for Gonzalez.

In addition, it'll help out our already strong running game. 8 in the box? Send Tony over the middle. Safeties playing deeper to respect Tony G? Run it with AD. People were already giving up on Shank and calling for Garrette Mills.

If the asking price is, let's say, a 4th rounder, I would say pull the trigger. Or maybe a pick based on his performance. It's worth a shot IMO.

BS, get the point, but WAY overdone.

Shianc can't hold Gonzalez' jock strap, nor TJ McNabb's.

This would be an absolute no brainer for the right price.
Not sure what the right price is, but, pretty sure TJack, nor, short-term Gus is what Gonzo would be looking for.

Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent
