If he can hang on after getting demolished, why can't Shiancoe hold onto it after getting hit only fairly hard?

My guess would be that Sammy White was a good receiver and Shank is... :-XQuote:

When I saw that play happen I thought it was the ball that popped out and not his helmet...it was one of those days for the Vikings.
I hate when they use the term "anniversary" for bad things. It just doesn't seem to fit.
now, i'm just a young guy, who still has lots to learn about vikings history.
What significance was there of that hit?
Was he seriously injured?
I saw that game on TV when it happened live...something that I will never forget.

It was one of a very few positive plays that the Vikings had in the game...I don't recall if he was knocked out of the game though...probably got a concussion, but back then they didn't think concussions were a big thing...just rub some dirt on it and get back in the gameQuote:

I did too...I actually saw all 4 of our Super Bowl losses(yes I'm old)...The Vikings didn't play well in any of them. :'(Quote:

But there is always hope....hope that I live long enough
to see them win.
;)
I remember watching it too, and was amazed that Sammy held onto it. I never liked Tatum, always thought he was a dirty player, taking too many shots helmet-to-helmet. They call him "assassin".
As I recall, there was nothing out of the ordinary with the hit on Stingley, except of course the result...and I believe it was a preseason game (thus the anniversary). Also, Tatum never apologized to Stingley.

Tatum is a certifiable asshole regarding that play.Quote:

I never followed up on it to see if he ever did apologize.
I remember that he didn't at the time and he didn't when he was in the hospital.
I remember those SBs like they were yesterday.
I think it hardened me up so I could live through the pain of being a fan.
I'm pretty sure Sammy came back into the game and played, I think his TD was after getting creamed by Tatum.
