I don't see why it's really that questionable.

We won it last year, and at worst we have a better QB situation that we did then.

Jackson came on strong at the end of the season.
Rosenfels is supposedly a good QB, although I'm not sold on him.
When/if we get Favre we have a hall of famer behind center for at least 8 weeks if his 2008 is worth basing anything off of.

It's only fair to assume Shiancoe will have made improvements over the offseason.
Harvin adds another big play element to the offense if he plays to potential and can stay on the field.
Loadholt has the ability to anchor the right side of the line.
The defense has spent one more year together, the only real "new guy" playing on the defense is Johnson, who has limited experience, but enough athletic ability to play the cover 2 safety role with no problem.

The only spot I have serious questions about is the center position.

I'm worried about getting through the playoffs, not to them.
I agree with your premise that our QB situation has no doubt improved, and we should win the division. A few reasons though aren't quite as clear cut. Shankoe may or may not improve, he had a career year last year, but I'm still not totally convinced that his dropsies won't come back.
Harvin and Loadhalt are both rookies, rookies can't be depended on to improve a team right away, and every other team has a few new rookies with lots of potential.
Not to mention the Bears added Cutler & we play them at home on December 28th. Could be a cold one.

The Lions also improved, but shouldn't pose a threat, although they did come close to beating us twice last year.

GB I wouldn't sell short either. It's all going to depend on how much their new defense works as opposed to the cluster fuck it was last year.

    Super Bowl = Brett Favre
First round loss in playoffs = TJ

This is a Vikings site and despite the coaching problems we have had, the FO has assembled enough talent to win the division.(especially on the defensive side). Hell, if someone would not pick the Vikings =Z= would probably have a stroke.

I don't feel we are a lock by any means. You never know who or how many players might get hurt and how that will impact the team. You don't know how 2 new OL will handle their jobs and you don't know if the coaching staff will do a better job of game management.

Chicago will be worse on D but they will have a better QB and they have a shot at winning the division.
GB will be stronger on offense and if the D adapts to the new system they have the ability to beat us if we don't play our best.

Detroit will be better than last year. They played us close the past few years and with a better group of coaches and players they could upset us.

That is why I feel our division will be the toughest in the league. I don't feel any team has the ability to run the tables and as I said, injuries may be the difference between the 1st and 3rd place team.

All that aside we won the division with and old man and a deer in the headlights trainee behind C last year and I don't think we are going to be any worse this year so we have a good shot.

    Re: 2009 conference records.

I normally do this with a schedule and pick EVERY single game so that I can see what happens, but have not gotten around to that yet. So for now these are my off the top of my head picks.

    AFC EAST
    Patriots, Jets, Dolphins, Bills

    AFC NORTH
    Steelers, Bengals, Ravens, Browns

    AFC SOUTH
    Colts, Texans, Titans, Jaguars

    AFC WEST
    Chargers, Raiders, Chiefs, Broncos

    NFC EAST
    Cowboys, Eagles, Giants, Redskins

    NFC NORTH
    Vikings, Packers, Bears, Lions

    NFC SOUTH
    Panthers, Saints, Falcons, Bucs

    NFC WEST
    Seahawks, Cardinals, 49ers, Rams

Wildcards: AFC - Texans, Bengals; NFC - Eagles, Giants

AFC Championship - Patriots over Chargers
NFC Championship - Cowboys over Vikings

Super Bowl - Patriots over Cowboys

Last team out of the playoffs - AFC - Jets; NFC - Saints

Worst team in the league - Lions

League MVP - Peyton Manning (who else?)

Of course these will change when I print up a full schedule and run the table over 2 or 3 hours that definitely could be better used ... but we will see.

    Re: 2009 conference records.

    Minnesota
    Detroit
    Chicago
    Green Bay
    (I'm serious.
I don't think they will do well with the 3-4 shift especially against running teams)

    Philly
    Giants
    Dallas
(Loss of TO will hurt a bit, but not as much as a bunch of glorified stars play like that instead of a team)
    Washington

    Carolina
(Hard to go against the Falcons.
    Call this one a hunch.)
    Atlanta
    New Orleans
    St Louis

San Fran (Ole Mike knows old school and old school will have this team ready for a fast start)
    Seattle
    St Louis
Arizona (They lost the SB and are in a bit of disaray)

    Pittsburgh
    Bengals
Baltimore (I'd love to give it to these cats, however, they are old on D and lost the best part of that unit)
    Cleveland

    New England
    Buffalo
    Miami
    Jets

    Houston
    Tennessee
    Colts
(Lost to much consistency at the top (coaches) for this not to fall apart)
    Jacksonville

    San Diego
    Denver
    KC
    Oakland

    I'm a realist.
