Re: 14 skip practice, but Favre attends

Packers minicamp, nobody wants to be there!

The Vikings have 100% attendance at their team activities!

Wonder how the season will go for both teams?

Packers | Favre adjusting to new playbook
    Sun, 11 Jun 2006 12:20:18 -0700

FOXSports.com reports Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre's biggest offseason challenge is adjusting to the terminology of head coach Mike McCarthy's version of the West Coast offense. "It's a big challenge. 'Strong right' last year was something totally different than 'Strong right' this year," Favre said. "For the most part, the concepts are the same. As you're watching, you go, 'OK, I recognize that play.' But, it's getting out of the huddle that's the problem."

Thanks to PPE for the sig.

Re: 14 skip practice, but Favre attends

Nice to see the Pack's 3 biggest signings of the off season (Woodson, Picket, Gardner) are not attending their work outs.

If you are a GB fan it has to get under your skin that 3 guys your team gave millions to are not attending your team activities, are not there trying to learn the playbook and defense schemes of their new team. What dedication and commitment on those players part, but then again I am sure they feel that if Favre doesn't have to be there why should they!

What a team leader that Favre is! Why does your team put up with his crap, that's right 29int's how could you let that go?

What team spirit in Green Bay!

McCarthy gets word from three no-shows

    By TODD ROSIAK

Green Bay - No, maybe and yes.

That's apparently what Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy has heard from Al Harris, Charles Woodson and Ryan Pickett or their representatives in recent conversations regarding the veterans' availability for the team's five remaining voluntary practices.

"We've spoken to those guys throughout this whole process," McCarthy said Tuesday after practice. "All three of their situations are different. On an individual basis, Harris I do not expect, Woodson is up in the air right now and Pickett I do expect."

All three players are being counted on to be difference-makers for Green Bay this season.

Harris, the Packers' top cornerback in 2005, apparently is unhappy with the five-year, $18.635 million contract he signed in September 2004 and is planning to sit out anything deemed voluntary by the team in protest.

Woodson, who signed a seven-year, $39.03 million deal with Green Bay earlier in the off-season, had been traveling abroad when the Packers opened their latest round of workouts on May 31.

McCarthy said Tuesday that the ninth-year cornerback was back in the country.

It's unclear why Pickett, a defensive tackle who signed a four-year, $14 million contract in mid-March, has been absent.

Roll call: Wide receiver Donald Driver was not in attendance on Clarke Hinkle Field on Tuesday, joining fellow wideout Rod Gardner and tight end David Martin, each of whom missed the workout Monday as well.

Returning to practice was middle linebacker Nick Barnett, who had missed practice Friday and Monday because of a family matter, McCarthy said.

Injury list: Defensive end Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila was held out because of a shoulder injury.

Cornerback Mike Hawkins, who missed practice Monday, was forced out Tuesday after suffering a knee cut.

Cornerback Jason Horton also dropped out with a back injury.

In attendance but remaining out with injuries were running backs Ahman Green, Arliss Beach and Najeh Davenport, linebackers Tim Goodwell, Brady Poppinga and Byron Santiago and tackles Adrian Klemm and Chad Clifton.

Injured but not in attendance were wide receiver Vince Butler, cornerback Will Blackmon and tackle Kevin Barry.

Be careful: In the wake of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's motorcycle accident Monday, McCarthy addressed the issue with his players.

The message especially hit home with running back Noah Herron, who got to know Roethlisberger last season when he was a member of the Steelers.

"My prayers go out to him and his family," Herron said. "It's a scary incident. He didn't have a helmet on and he got in a wreck. God was looking out for him, I think, and hopefully he'll ride his bike with his helmet on from now on."

Roethlisberger, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, suffered a broken jaw and nose, a 9-inch gash to the back of his head, lost several teeth and chipped several others.

He underwent seven hours of surgery after the crash, and it's unknown how it might affect his availability for next season.

Herron said Roethlisberger went out of his way to help him and other Steelers newcomers on offense last year.

"He was great. He really helped the rookies out," Herron said. "Being a rookie who played right away, he knew what it was like to have a lot of pressure. So he really helped us settle down and play rather than do too much at once."

Taking a look: For the second straight day, Jason Spitz ran at right guard with the No. 1 offense in place of Junius Coston.

"Spitz has done very well since he's been here," McCarthy said. "That whole inside group is very young. We're looking at everybody. We've talked about getting the best five on the field and we're continuing to give individuals the opportunity to fight for those positions."

It was the same thing at linebacker, where free agent Ben Taylor once again worked ahead of Roy Manning on the strong side.

"I can't stress (enough) the fact that we're going through the learning phase," McCarthy said "We're still installing. So as far as who's ahead of who, it's just creating opportunities looking at different guys, the 4-4, the 4-6 and so forth."
